This month has been quite the eventful one for fine arts here at MCHS! On Monday, May 7th, the Drama 3 classes performed two one-act plays in a “Night of One Acts”. (Tracks, The Perils Of Modern Education.) And on Wednesday, May 9th, the dance, drama, and musical theatre classes performed in Spring Spotlight. There were dances, songs, monologues, and duet scenes in which some students were in multiple performances.

The dance classes put on several performances such as “Reflection”, which was centered around societal beauty standards and its harmful effect on today’s youth. “Break the Cycle” was a dance dedicated to remember the lives lost due to the recent high school shootings in the U.S and bring attention to gun violence in our society. Other dances were also performed, such as “Run The World”, which was based on feminism and powerful women throughout today and times past; And “Heal” focusing on the issue surrounding world hunger.

There were many solos and comedic duet scenes throughout the night, and Drama 2 performed “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day“ and “Hickory Dickory Dock” with their own twist.

To conclude the Spotlight, Hope Eason sang, “What I Did For Love” from the musical A Chorus Line. All of the musical theatre class and even some drama students joined in for the final number. This was quite the magnificent yet emotional ending, because for some, this was the last time that they performed on the McCracken stage.

  1. Overall, this showcase was unlike any other. Each year, the groups of students bring a unique and passionate outlook regarding their art form, and there is something for everyone in the audience to enjoy. If you did not attend this year’s Spring Spotlight, you missed out! This was a night for all of the fine arts to come together and make something wonderful, and an amazing opportunity for the community to experience it.  (Night of One Acts photos credit to Calebbufordcreative)
