After their big homecoming win against Memorial, Menomonie’s football team was defeated by New Richmond 26-0 the following week on Friday, October 3rd.
The first half of the game was very back-and-forth between the two teams, with New Richmond leading at halftime with only 6 points, and Menomonie with 0 points. It looked as though Menomonie may still have been able to gain points and pull ahead-unfortunately, the second half only resulted in more touchdowns for the New Richmond Tigers.
Menomonie did have a few advantages going into the game: they were on their own field and were feeling good after their big win from homecoming week. However they also had some disadvantages, with quite a few of their players still out from previous injuries.
After the third quarter, the Mustang’s spirit was running low. They hadn’t scored a single touchdown and New Richmond was far ahead of them. The game did not look good for Menomonie. Despite that, they kept fighting and didn’t give up.
“I was trying to lift everybody up and keep everyone motivated. We fought to the end and kept it close.”
Said Bryce Shepard, captain of the football team.
After this loss, Menomonie now stands 5th in the overall Big Rivers Conference. Their current win-to-loss ratio is 4-3, adding New Richmond to the list with Hudson and Rice Lake for their defeats.
The MHS football team will travel to River Falls this Friday, October 10th for their eighth game. River Falls is currently 1st in the BRC, but is also tied with Hudson and Rice Lake in 1st overall with a total win-to-loss ratio of 6-1, their only loss being to New Richmond.
