On February 6, 2026, the Menomonie Girls JV basketball team won their match against Eau Claire North 51-42. The team kept a strong lead throughout the whole game.
Menomonie won the pickoff with #21 (Kylie Brandanburg), passing it back to her teammates. During the beginning of the game, North kept up a good defense, scoring a couple of points out of the gate, giving them a lead; however, the Mustangs began to take over by scoring a variety of points quickly and sharply along with a couple of 3’s made by #0 (Raegan Dunbar), #3 (Kate Schofield), #30 (Raegen Utpadel). At the end of the 1st half, the Mustangs led 23-15.
The Mustangs showed outstanding teamwork when it came to scoring and defending points. All the girls would make sure to pass to their teammates if they were close to the hoop or when someone was open to try and gain the upper hand. Whenever North had the ball, all the girls were quick on their feet to try and steal the ball back or block the shots from the Huskies.
“What I enjoy about being on the Menomonie Mustangs Basketball Team is the relationships that I have with all of my teammates, and how well we get along. We spend a lot of time together off the court, and it really translates and shows on the court…I really cherish and love the friendships I have built through my favorite game, basketball, and that is what I enjoy most about being a part of the Menomonine Mustangs Basketball Team.” Said Kylie Brandenburg.
During the second half, #21 (Kylie Brandanburg) was quick on her feet when she got the ball, leading her to score a few 2-pointers. During the second half, Menomonie had a decent amount of free throws made by a variety of players #3 (Kate Schofield), #5 (Ayala Hilson), #24 (Morgan Fanetti), and #21 (Kylie Brandanburg). The Mustangs were able to keep their lead for all of the second half, leading the Huskies to fall 9 points short at the end of the match.
“I have had so many fun memories on this team, from the team meal at the coach’s house to the bus ride to games. This team makes me laugh every day.” Commented from a player on the Mustangs JV team.
Both teams put up a good battle, but in the end, the Mustangs pulled through, overcoming the Huskies in a high-speed but intense match. The Mustangs’ next home game is on Tuesday, February 10th, against Eau Claire Memorial.
