In today’s world, ensuring safety within school institutions has become a top priority. Schools are meant to be a safe place for learning, growth in education, and building a community, such as making new friends. However, to maintain that safe environment, having an effective school security system is crucial. Having an effective school security system is very beneficial to protect students, teachers, staff, and any visitors.
Here at Menomonie High School, we take school safety very seriously. It’s essential that we have a robust security system to ensure the safety of students, teachers, staff, and visitors. Having a good security system can be good for making students feel safe and comfortable at school while learning and getting their education, which is also very important.
In order to have a good security system and make sure people are safe at school, we need people who monitor and help out with this. Our school cop, Officer Kahl, plays a role in this. His main role is just like how any cop’s role is, to keep us safe and protect us from any situation that were to happen. We also have several other MHS staff members who monitor the security cameras all the time. The front office, as well as the administration, all have access to the cameras. Those who monitor the cameras are the front office people, who are Ms. Julie, Ms. Shelbe, and Ms. Martha. We have Mr. Drake, our principal. Our assistant principals, Mrs. Bayer and Mr. Harmon. Our athletic director, Mr. Riley. And then lastly, our school cop Officer Kahl.
“To help ensure the safety of the students and staff, I conduct daily door, hallway, and
bathroom checks. I handled every student or staff situation that could pose a threat to the safety of everyone in the building.” – Officer Kahl
The Menomonie school district is always looking for new ways to upgrade and keep our security system up to date. For MHS, all doors are locked during the school day to make sure no one is able to get in. The only way to get into the building during the school day is through the main office. This is one part of our school security system to keep everyone in the building safe. Another one is cameras, which are always monitored throughout the day. The cameras are used for watching for anything that may happen, bad behavior of students, and also any illegal activity. Then there is Officer Kahl, who monitors doors, hallways, and also bathroom checks.
