The annual 2025 Game Awards were held in Los Angeles on December 11th at The Peacock Theater, where winning games were announced. The livestream lasted almost eight hours.
The Game Awards kicked off with an opening act hosted by Geoff Keighley. The opening act began with new game announcements and award presentations.
The new games announced in the 2025 Game Awards were Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a new Divinity RPG, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, Mega Man: Dual Override, Resident Evil 9, Highguard (a new shooter from Titanfall devs), Control Resonant, Ace Combat 8, and Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was announced as the game of the year, earning 9 awards, surpassing the record set by The Last of Us II, which earned 7 awards, including Best RPG, Best Art Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Game Direction. This was a historic debut for the game. It was the first French-developed title to win Game of the Year.
Another notable award that deserves mention is the game-changer award. This award was given to girls who make games. Girls Make Games is an organization that encourages girls to pursue careers in the video game development industry. The significance being that it recognizes positive social impact in the gaming industry, celebrating the work of Girls Make Games in fostering young female developers.
There were celebrity presenters, including David Harbour (who introduced Total War: Warhammer 40,000), Dan Houser, Rahul Kohli, Lenny Kravitz, and the cast of the upcoming Street Fighter movie.
The Game Awards featured a musical act from Evanescence, performing their hit song “Afterlife,” which was featured in Netflix’s show called Devil’s May Cry. The Game Awards orchestra performed behind her, conducted by Lorne Balfe.
