The Menomonie Varsity Football team lost their second game of the season 24-41 when they took on Rice Lake on Friday, September 12th.
Menomonie scored 24 points in the first half of the game, leaving Rice Lake behind at halftime. Rice Lake came back stronger than they were before and pulled the win out from under Menomonie. As a result, Menomonie is now 2-2 with losses against Hudson and Rice Lake and wins against Eau Claire North and Marshfield.
Menomonie started short; the injuries plagued the team even though they played smash-mouth football in the first quarter. The Injuries showed in the 2nd half as Rice Lake threw up 35 unanswered points. Four key players ended up injured.
“I think a lot of guys stepped up and filled in the spots for the people who are hurt, but I believe we need to band together more as a team to try and score more points.”

Rice Lake had advantages throughout the game, being on their own turf and with all their players healthy and ready to attack. Rice Lake started slow, but they contemplated their earlier plays and how they were going to improve midway through the second quarter. Rice Lake then went on to score 35 unanswered points and ended up winning the football game: 41 to 24
Menomonie travels to Superior this Friday, September 19th, for their fifth game of the season. Superior is currently 1-3, with losses to River Falls, Stevens Point, and Wausau West, and a win against Eau Claire North.
