On September 20, 2025, the MHS boys’ and girls’ varsity cross country teams took on the Roy Griak Invitational race at the University of Minnesota. The boys’ team placed 3rd, while the girls’ team placed 13th. The only MHS runner to individually place was Lauren McCalla, who finished 4th with a time of 18:41.2 in the 5000 meters.
“On Saturday we had a setback at Griak.”
said Coach Olson on the girls’ performance.
The girls’ cross country team had the goal of placing in the top 10 at the race, but did not reach the goal. The girls faced strong competition; the teams placing above them are ranked highly in their state or even ranked nationally. The Midwest experienced a lot of rain this week, leading to a setback in the conditions of the course, which were super muddy.
Although the boys didn’t have any racers in the top 10, Luke Ray and Logan Topper placed in the top 20 for the boys. Luke placed 12th in the 5000-meter running a 17:33.5, and Logan placed 17th by running a 17:43.3.
Both girls and boys teams will head to Marshfield on Friday, September 26th, to race under the lights for the Nightfall 715 Classic.
