On September 13th, the boys’ soccer team suffered a disappointing loss in their away game against Altoona.
Menomonie pulled ahead by 1 goal before the second half. Mohamed Alnaeli scored with a header, assisted by Keebtxuj Xiong from a corner kick.
“I felt confident after assisting Mo’s goal,” said Keebtxuj
Altoona returned a goal less than 5 minutes after the Mustangs scored, tying up the score.
“The Railroaders’ score on the next play led to our confidence going downhill,” said Keebtxuj.
The score was 1-1 going into the second half. Altoona bested the Mustangs’ defense and scored again during the second half, resulting in a final score of 1-2.
The intense heat played a factor in the Mustangs’ performance; many players were pulled out of the game due to dehydration and heat exhaustion. Temperatures reached a high of 84° F.
The Mustang’s record fell to 2-6-2 after the loss. They hope to improve their record as the season continues, as they face Eau Claire North on September 16th, New Richmond on September 18th, and Chippewa Falls on September 23rd
