The Menomonie High School Senior class of 2026 beat the underclassmen, coming in first place in the Homecoming skits for the third time in their high school careers on Thursday, September 25th.
Each class spent countless hours working on their individual skits, creating a fun and entertaining 7-minute movie-themed video for their school.
The Freshmen made an Inside Out-themed football video, ending with bloopers. The Sophomores created a video with movie characters assisting them in making their skit. The Juniors designed Mustang Netflix movie parodies, including classic films such as Shrek, Step Brothers, and Back to the Future. The Juniors were able to reflect on their past skits and make fun of themselves to add some humor to their skit.
The Senior skit was directed by Sara Palmer and MacKenzie Bien. It showed Cade Lamb and Luke Pember directing a movie remake. They cycled through many options, including Titanic, Captain America, and High School Musical, before finishing on a remake of Step-Brothers. The skit concluded with a nostalgic flashback scene to previous skits, along with a nod to The Breakfast Club by playing the song ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ by Simple Minds.
The skits were shown during study hall, and four teacher volunteers scored each script according to a rubric provided by the Student Council. The resulting scores had the Seniors coming out on top, resulting in 4 points earned. Next came the Juniors with 3 points, Sophomores with 2 points, and Freshmen with 1 point.
“It’s always exciting to see the unique ideas each grade brings from year to year. I saw a lot of creativity and imagination. I think many students look forward to the viewing day, and I especially enjoy seeing everyone’s reactions as they watch their classmates’ work come to life,” said judge Mrs. Delong.
After the scores from the skits were added to the other points, the Seniors earned 26 points, the Juniors earned 18, and the Sophomores and Freshmen were tied at 13 points.
