The movie regretting you came out in theaters on October 24th, 2025. The movie is based on the book Regretting You, by Colleen Hoover. The Movie and Book is about a devastating accident revealing a shocking betrayal. Morgan Grant and her daughter, Clara, explore what’s left behind as they confront family secrets, redefine love, and rediscover each other.
Many fans of Colleen Hoover are very excited about the movie, but some are worried that the movie will not be accurate or detailed enough. Third Coast Review stated, “Nothing about the emotions in this movie feels authentic, and rather than let us see these kids get to know each other and talk to each other at length in an attempt to grow closer, we get montages of fun with a catchy tune playing on top of it. Did I mention the film is utterly predictable?”
There were some difference between the movie and the book. In the book Morgan figures out about the paternity test early in the book, while in the movie Jonah suspects it and figures it out by himself. In the book Morgan wanted to pursue her education and go back to school, but then the accident happened and she couldn’t. While in the movie morgan doesn’t say anything about going back to school, Morgan didn’t even want her daughter, Clara to go to her dream University for acting.
Overall the movie is missing a few important key points that the book has. Some fans are very disappointed and some are happy about the movie. The movie could have shown more details and been longer than an hour and a half. The book is more detailed and gives an accurate and relatable storyline that sparks interest in Colleen Hoover’s fans.
I think the movie was good, it had the perfect amount of emotion and character. Clara’s character was very accurate; the arguments and tones she used in the movie and book were almost the exact same. I would recommend watching the movie then reading the book. For those who read the book before the movie you may be disappointed that some scenes aren’t the same in the book as the movie.
