FCCLA held its state competition April 6th through the 8th in the Dells at the Calahari.
The main goal of FCCLA is to promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer science education. It’s to focus on multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader. Members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a career and technical student organization that functions as an integral part of the family and consumer sciences education curriculum and operates within the school system.
“I really enjoy getting to know students outside of classes. Helping them discover and grow their leadership, talents, and abilities is the best part,” said by Mrs Krause

At the state level, there are competitive event levels. Level 1 is members through 8th grade; Level 2 is 9th- and 10th-grade members; Level 3 is 11th- and 12th-grade members; and Level 4 is postsecondary members. So anyone who is a part of FCCLA gets the chance to compete at state. For each level, there are individual events and team events.
Darla Woodford competed in the baking and pastry competition. The baking and pastry event is an individual competition to show off their baking and pastry skills through the preparation of a quick bread, choux pastry, cookie, and a demonstration of cake decorating skills.
Darla qualifies for nationals by earning second place in her competition. Nationals are in Washington DC in July.
“ I am extremely excited to be going to the state in D.C. this summer. I am a little nervous because there is going to be a lot of competition, but I am excited to meet new people and learn new things.” Commented by Darla Woodford
